Pastor Brett started at FBCHHI in April of 2018. Prior to FBCHHI, Brett served as a Senior Pastor in Westminster, SC before moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to plant and pastor a church with the North American Mission Board. First Baptist was Brett and his family’s “vacation church” since 1998, so he’s had a great appreciation and love for our church for many years.
Brett grew up in Laurel, MS and in Gainesville, GA. Brett has been married to Kristin since June 4, 2005, and they have four cute little girls, Eden, Karis, Lydia, and Abigail; so our pastor gets regular hair-brushing sessions at home with “his girls.”
Brett is excited to serve at First Baptist Church, and has a big vision for the church’s future, as we honor and build on the rich history our church has in this community. He is passionate about preaching God’s Word effectively and applicably, and about making disciples who make disciples.
Brett is full of excitement and energy as he leads our church to build on our rich history and to continue to become a church focused on reaching those outside our walls. He is passionate about preaching God’s Word accurately and applicably, about making disciples who make disciples, and about investing himself into our staff and leadership.
Brett earned a BS in Business Management from Berry College, a M.Div in Missions, Evangelism and Church Growth from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a MBA in Leadership from Brenau University, and is pursuing a D.Min in Catalytic Leadership in Church Planting from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Mary Hayes came to work with us in 2010 when her family lived on Hilton Head Island. Mary has a sweet spirit and gentle manner, not to mention being excellent at her job. When her husband, Jerry took a new job, they moved to their hometown of Charleston, SC. The church did not want to lose this excellent employee, so it was arranged for her to work remotely. She continues to provide consistent work even though she resides elsewhere. She returns to the office once or twice a month, or as needed, and church business and financial matters continue as usual. Should you need to speak with her, call the church office and we will direct the call to her.
Mary and Jerry are the parents of two grown boys, Bryce and Ryan. Both were recently married.
Lynda has been at FBCHHI since 1989, and has served in her role as Ministry Assistant since July 15, 1992.
Lynda grew up in Morganton, NC and Gainesville, GA. She and her husband, Clif, were married right here at First Baptist on September 2, 1979. They have two grown sons, Jason, who lives in upstate SC, and Blake, who lives in Boston, MA.
Lynda loves working with people and communicating God’s love through her role as Ministry Assistant. She is excited about the alignment she sees with the church and the will of God, and for us to continually become a brighter light to the community, being a place where young and old can anchor their faith in Christ.
Lynda enjoys watercolor painting, singing in the church choir, leading a women’s Connection group, traveling, and Carolina Shag Dancing with her husband.
She has a BA in Commercial Art from Brenau University, and has continued her education through the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s (SCBC) Ministry Assistant’s Association. She has also served as a past president of the SCBC Ministry Assistant’s Association, past secretary/treasurer of the National Association of Southern Baptist Secretaries, and as the recording secretary of the SCBC.
Paulette started attending FBCHHI in 2006 after her daughter-in-law suggested that she take her granddaughters to VBS at our church. At VBS, some church members invited Paulette to Sunday School, so she attended our Heavenly Angels class and immediately found herself at home. She soon began volunteering for Lynda once per week, and applied for and accepted the role as our receptionist in 2007.
Earlier in life, Paulette worked at Georgia Perimeter College, now Georgia State University, for 16 years as the Student Accounts Manager for three branches. She grew up in the small town of Winnsboro, SC. Her dream job after retirement was always to work at a church in downtown Atlanta, so God answered that prayer except in that she has traded watching out for crazy traffic for watching out for crossing alligators.
Her greatest passion outside of church and her Christian life is her 7 grandchildren. She has 3 children, 2 boys and a girl, and her oldest son went home to be with the Lord in 2014.
Paulette has a BA from Georgia Perimeter College and has 16 years of experience in the banking industry.
In addition to being an incredible greeter, a wonderful Sunday School teacher, and an awesome deacon, Richard also serves as one of our church custodians. As such, he helps not only to clean our facilities, but is also gifted at repairs and other projects as needed. Richard and Rosa (whom he affectionately calls “Babycakes”) were married in NC on February 4, 1966. Richard and Rosa have 3 daughters, one who went home to be with the Lord at just 9 months old, as well as Pamela and Melisha. They are also proud grandparents to 6 grandchildren.
Richard and Rosa have vacationed to Hilton Head and visited First Baptist annually since 1995. He’s served in his role as our custodian since September 2013. Prior to retirement to our little oasis, Richard worked as a welder for over 43 years in Maryland.
Richard appreciates most the love that he has found at First Baptist, and hopes to help us become an even more radiant light to those who walk in darkness as they come and hear the truth of God’s Word preached and taught at First Baptist.
Richard is passionate about sharing his faith, and in his spare time enjoys traveling to see family and cycling.
