Pastor Brett started at FBCHHI in April of 2018. Prior to FBCHHI, Brett served as a Senior Pastor in Westminster, SC before moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to plant and pastor a church with the North American Mission Board. First Baptist was Brett and his family’s “vacation church” since 1998, so he’s had a great appreciation and love for our church for many years.
Brett grew up in Laurel, MS and in Gainesville, GA. Brett has been married to Kristin since June 4, 2005, and they have four cute little girls, Eden, Karis, Lydia, and Abigail; so our pastor gets regular hair-brushing sessions at home with “his girls.”
Brett is excited to serve at First Baptist Church, and has a big vision for the church’s future, as we honor and build on the rich history our church has in this community. He is passionate about preaching God’s Word effectively and applicably, and about making disciples who make disciples.
Brett is full of excitement and energy as he leads our church to build on our rich history and to continue to become a church focused on reaching those outside our walls. He is passionate about preaching God’s Word accurately and applicably, about making disciples who make disciples, and about investing himself into our staff and leadership.
Brett earned a BS in Business Management from Berry College, a M.Div in Missions, Evangelism and Church Growth from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a MBA in Leadership from Brenau University, and is pursuing a D.Min in Catalytic Leadership in Church Planting from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
REV. RICHARD WADEMINISTER OF MUSIC AND EDUCATION
Pastor Richard started at FBCHHI in 2010. He has served as a Minister of Music since 1991 in churches in Texas, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina.
Richard grew up in Ocala, FL. He and Angela have been married since June 2, 1984. They have two beautiful daughters, Rachel and Natalie, who are both grown and in the midst of pursuing their dreams. Angela and the girls have always been an active part of the music ministry where God placed them, as well as in others areas of the church.
Richard is very gifted and passionate in leading worship, and is excited to include more and more people within the music ministry of First Baptist. He is gifted as well at casting vision for our Sunday School department and at preparing us for the future. He desires for our church to seek and know God’s purpose for us in this unique mission field, and that we will strive to always be a healthy community of faith that loves Jesus and loves people, all to the glory of God.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys spending time with his family, playing the piano and trumpet, reading, playing golf, and traveling, especially to the mountains or Disney World.
Richard has a BA in music from UCF, a MM (Master of Music) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and has taken additional sessions at Westminster Choir College, Eastman School of Music, Southwestern Seminary, Willow Creek Community Church, Emory University, and the Maranatha! Worship Leadership School.
REV. BRIAN PARKERMinister of Youth and Young Families
Pastor Brian started at FBCHHI in October 2018. Prior to First Baptist he served as a Youth Pastor in two churches over the past 14 years, both Southern Baptist church plants, where he also played a vital role on leadership teams.
Brian and his wife, Emily, both grew up in the upstate. They were married on April 30, 2011, and have two adorable children, Merritt and Hudson. Emily is very involved in the youth ministry of our church as well, also serving in the children’s ministry. She is a dental hygienist in the area.
Brian is most excited about the team God has put together here at First Baptist, and about the opportunity to see God use the next generation. He’s encouraged by the amazing group of adult leaders in our church who have a heart to serve and disciple students. Brian is also a gifted preacher, and shares the pulpit with Pastor Brett.
In his spare time, Brian loves to do anything outdoors. He is an avid fisherman, and enjoys running and cycling on Hilton Head’s amazing bike paths.
Brian has a BS in Business Administration from Lander University, and is planning to begin a seminary education in the near future. He has also served in various roles as a coach within the realm of discipleship for our South Carolina Baptist Convention.
LYNDA HOPKINSMINISTRY ASSISTANT
Lynda has been at FBCHHI since 1989, and has served in her role as Ministry Assistant since July 15, 1992.
Lynda grew up in Morganton, NC and Gainesville, GA. She and her husband, Clif, were married right here at First Baptist on September 2, 1979. They have two grown sons, Jason, who lives in upstate SC, and Blake, who lives in Boston, MA.
Lynda loves working with people and communicating God’s love through her role as Ministry Assistant. She is excited about the alignment she sees with the church and the will of God, and for us to continually become a brighter light to the community, being a place where young and old can anchor their faith in Christ.
Lynda enjoys watercolor painting, singing in the church choir, leading a women’s Connection group, traveling, and Carolina Shag Dancing with her husband.
She has a BA in Commercial Art from Brenau University, and has continued her education through the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s (SCBC) Ministry Assistant’s Association. She has also served as a past president of the SCBC Ministry Assistant’s Association, past secretary/treasurer of the National Association of Southern Baptist Secretaries, and as the recording secretary of the SCBC.
Paulette started attending FBCHHI in 2006 after her daughter-in-law suggested that she take her granddaughters to VBS at our church. At VBS, some church members invited Paulette to Sunday School, so she attended our Heavenly Angels class and immediately found herself at home. She soon began volunteering for Lynda once per week, and applied for and accepted the role as our receptionist in 2007.
Earlier in life, Paulette worked at Georgia Perimeter College, now Georgia State University, for 16 years as the Student Accounts Manager for three branches. She grew up in the small town of Winnsboro, SC. Her dream job after retirement was always to work at a church in downtown Atlanta, so God answered that prayer except in that she has traded watching out for crazy traffic for watching out for crossing alligators.
Her greatest passion outside of church and her Christian life is her 7 grandchildren. She has 3 children, 2 boys and a girl, and her oldest son went home to be with the Lord in 2014.
Paulette has a BA from Georgia Perimeter College and has 16 years of experience in the banking industry.
In addition to being an incredible greeter, a wonderful Sunday School teacher, and an awesome deacon, Richard also serves as one of our church custodians. As such, he helps not only to clean our facilities, but is also gifted at repairs and other projects as needed. Richard and Rosa (whom he affectionately calls “Babycakes”) were married in NC on February 4, 1966. Richard and Rosa have 3 daughters, one who went home to be with the Lord at just 9 months old, as well as Pamela and Melisha. They are also proud grandparents to 6 grandchildren.
Richard and Rosa have vacationed to Hilton Head and visited First Baptist annually since 1995. He’s served in his role as our custodian since September 2013. Prior to retirement to our little oasis, Richard worked as a welder for over 43 years in Maryland.
Richard appreciates most the love that he has found at First Baptist, and hopes to help us become an even more radiant light to those who walk in darkness as they come and hear the truth of God’s Word preached and taught at First Baptist.
Richard is passionate about sharing his faith, and in his spare time enjoys traveling to see family and cycling.
The Mission of First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island is:
Making Biblical disciples who love, serve and share Christ with all people.
